Mechanical Properties (Typical values for quenched and tempered condition):
Tensile Strength: 600 - 900 MPa
Yield Strength (0.2% offset): 350 - 600 MPa
Elongation: 11 - 21%
Impact Toughness (Charpy V-notch): 30 - 40 J/cm²
Physical Properties:
Density: Approximately 7.85 g/cm³
Melting Point: Approximately 1450°C (2642°F)
Heat Treatment:
Annealing: Heat to 850-880°C (1562-1616°F), furnace cool at a rate not exceeding 30°C (54°F) per hour to 650°C (1202°F), then cool in air.
Normalizing: Heat to 850-890°C (1562-1634°F), air cool.
Quenching: Oil quench from 840-860°C (1544-1580°F) or water quench from 820-840°C (1508-1544°F), followed by tempering.
Tempering: Temper at a desired temperature depending on the desired properties. Typical tempering temperatures range from 150-250°C (302-482°F) for achieving a balance of strength and toughness.
